Nate DeGroot is entering his fifth of six years at the Rabbinical
School of Hebrew College in Newton, MA. Nate arrived at Hebrew College
after graduating magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University in
Nashville, TN where he focused his studies on leadership and
organizational effectiveness. Nate was deeply engaged in Jewish life
and community building on campus and that is where he had the
unexpected inspiration to become a rabbi. When he found Hebrew College,
he knew it was a perfect fit.
Since arriving at Hebrew College, Nate has served as Rabbinic
Intern at the University of Rhode Island Hillel, Director of Education
for non-profit social-justice gardening upstart Amir, and he has taught
in a variety of religious school settings. Nate has significant
experience as an experiential educator, facilitating numerous
service-learning programs, both domestically and abroad. He has also
been an Interfaith Circle Fellow, examining spiritual modalities and
storytelling.
Growing up on the North Shore of Massachusetts in
multiple and diverse Jewish and secular communities, Nate developed a
deeply rooted belief in pluralism, acceptance, and our obligation as
Jews and people to work towards a more just, healthy, and whole world.
A life-long seeker, Nate is intrigued by the ways we can integrate the
Divine into our lives, welcoming holiness into our daily activities and
pursuing our passions through a spiritual lens. Nate looks forward to
getting to know each of you in the Betenu community and supporting you
all in bringing your fullest selves, sharing your voices and the many
gifts you have to offer the rest of us. He couldn’t be more excited to
bring his curiosity, enthusiasm, and energy to Betenu this year as
spiritual leader and rabbinic intern!
